This piece is self-healing; it represents my immigrant experience and connects my family to my homesickness by folding each paper boat. The paper I used here is the traditional Chinese calendar designed daily, unlike the monthly calendar we use nowadays. The traditional daily calendar paper reminds me of my grandparents. When we lived together, my grandfather would tear off the previous day’s calendar paper and fold it into different origami before letting it go. Paper boats symbolize both childhood and grief to me in this work. I could greet myself on my family's behalf by folding every single boat daily

100 People I Met on Street, is an ongoing quick sketch project that I started in 2015. I have been drawing portraits of people I meet or know during my time traveling to the United States from Taiwan, living in America as an ESL learner, and working in New York as an instate citizen. I use drawing as a cross-cultural non-verbal communication tool. You never know the content just by looking at a book cover page. I translate the personality, temperatures, conversations and memories I experienced from them into colors, marks, and gestures. I believe each person I draw is unique and has a precious gift for me.
